Thomas C. Jones, M.D., F.A.C.E. I arrived in Macon in July of 1980. I completed my Diabetes training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. I had minimal training taking care of children with Diabetes, but I was called by the pediatricians of Macon to help with the care of their patients with Diabetes.
Camps for children with Diabetes were established in the 1920’s, soon after Insulin became available. These unique camps are different from the usual camping experience because you have to have qualified nutritionists, medically educated counselors and certified medical personnel to give the children not only a fun experience, but a safe and educational experience about their disease.
The year 2010 will mark 30 years that I have attempted to improve the lives of children with Diabetes. To have a camper come back and be a counselor because of their love to give back to our community and help others means so much to me. Being a member of the family of Camp Little Shot is the most significant achievement in my life.
