Everyone Learns at Camp Little Shot
Eric Dorner

My name is Eric Dorner and I was diagnosed with diabetes in 1994. I’ve had the great honor of being a part of Camp Little Shot for seven years as a camper and four as a councilor. I graduated from Georgia Southern University with a B.S. in Recreation, emphasis in natural and Cultural Resource Management. I do seasonal work with the U.S. Forest Service conducting biological data collection during the summer time and work at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, Donner Summit, California during the winter.

Camp Little Shot has influenced my life in almost every aspect from my career to my everyday choices. The guys and girls of Camp Little Shot are why I come back. Whether teaching the art of water sliding or how to communicate with your butt, I love the people at camp and they are my life. My goal as a councilor is to convince campers that diabetes isn’t the ending to a life, but one of life’s barriers, a barrier that must be broken. As a camper, Dr. Jones and E always told me to get out and exercise, to take control of my life and pursue not an ordinary life, but an extraordinary one. If I can teach them one thing about living with diabetes it would be for them to realize that they have diabetes, diabetes doesn’t have them.
