My name is Counselor Dan. I am Tyner’s “little” brother. I am married to Carol, and we have two adorable children, Melody and Judson. I am a local band director and church choir director. I have been around diabetes and Camp Little Shot ever since Jim came down with diabetes. I can always remember how much he enjoyed going to camp. Number 1, he got away from me, and Number 2, he was around friends who knew exactly what he experienced everyday of his life. Camp became a part of his life which in turn, made it a part of our lives as his family. I never volunteered for camp because this was Jim’s and I did not want to interfere with something he loved so much. But, in 2002, he asked me if I wanted to come to camp and help out with the younger campers and help with the talent show. I was thrilled and extremely nervous! Jim was letting me be a part of something very special to his life and that made me want to do my very best! Needless to say, one bug band behind me, and numerous funny stories later, here I am. Camp is now a part of my life and it is something we as brothers work hard at, laugh often about, and continue to be a part of year after year.
At Camp Little Shot, we are a family. All of us: Doc and E, the staff, and campers that continue to come back year after year to be a part of something amazing. We can see the success stories being told before our eyes. Wd can help the new ones who are struggling to understand what has happened to their bodies. And for five days, they can just be kids because they know they are with people who care for them, want them to understand and control their diabetes and most of all, realize that there is nothing they cannot do if they work hard and put their hearts into all they have. In the end, I truly feel, both staff and campers together, experience and learn the true meaning of Camp Little Shot. And that Camp Little Shot Spirit is a part of us everywhere we go and in everything we do. We are family. We all are Camp Little Shot.
