Lately With Camp Little Shot

Camp Dates

Saturday May 28th -
Wednesday June 1st

Ages: 6-18

There are not many organizations that can say for 30 years we have done all of this and keeping it free to all who attend. Camp Little shot is a true philanthropy for Dr. Tom Jones and Elizabeth Jones and it is known that they never want this to stop or have any child turned away or have to pay. That is why we live with the spirit of camp in our hearts all year long.

During the time at Camp Little Shot we don’t let time go by just doing nothing, we are one busy camp!!! Our day starts at 7 am with the checking of blood sugars, giving insulin and heading to breakfast. We usually have art and maybe some field games. As the morning winds down and after lunch we have our education time. The campers are divided in age appropriate groups and go to “class” to further their their knowledge in diabetes and the care they need to give themselves. To break the afternoon up we may go canoeing or go to the pool and have games before heading back to our cabins to clean up before dinner.

After dinner we have a Town meeting. Camp Little Shot creates a town while we are there and after dinner we recognize our town people who have done something extra special that day. That may mean helping a younger camper give their first shot, or changing a pump site or simply being nice if someone feels homesick. We continue with our education with our small group time, this is divided in age and gender, sitting in the outside and having a topic to discuss. The evenings are filled with great activities like Karaoke, movies, games and working up to the last night where our favorite counselor Dan has put together an incredible talent show using all the campers and staff.

We finish our camp with an emotional awards ceremony with a lot of tears shed, over the past week we have become a family and saying good bye can be tough. So at Camp Little Shot we try to do all kinds of different activities as well as educate the campers on their diabetes. We believe in each child and know if they have a dream we don’t want diabetes to stop them. We also believe they are the leaders for our next generation so we want to instill in them leadership qualities that will make them successful in life.
